Our Charitable work with Stepping Stones

Based in Undershaw, Hindhead, Stepping Stones is an independent special school with a charitable status. The school offers a perfect environment for children who fall between mainstream and full special needs provision in order to develop and grow.

Currently, the school has 95 students and 50 staff, with 10 volunteers coming in every week to help with extra tasks around the school, such as art class and reading lessons. The youngest child they have enrolled is 7 and the oldest is 19, so no matter the age they provide all children the best stepping stones for life.

In order to have the space to accommodate all students and staff, the school recently went through a renovation to expand their premises. On the 9th September 2016, the Undershaw building was opened as the second site for Stepping Stones, with the lower school now able to offer a unique setting to the youngest learners at Tower Road, which is located just down the road from Undershaw.

Did you know Undershaw is the home of Sherlock Holmes creator,Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, between 1887 and 1907…

During our visit, we were delighted to present Stepping Stones with a donation of £200, which can be used in any way to benefit the progression of the students at the school. The school is located 5 miles from Lythe Hill and with close ties between the school and members of staff we couldn’t have found a better charity to support.

Money can go a long way in these instances, so we are delighted to have raised our donation during the Haslemere Christmas Market, but we did not stop there.

During our visit, Melissa, who is the head teacher, explained to us that a lot of children at the school want to go into hospitality as a future career. This has given us the opportunity to allow students from Stepping Stones to gain valuable work experience working at our hotel, providing knowledge of life within hospitality. Our conference facilities are also available to the staff and pupils for off-site meetings and time away from their regular environment and routine.

When you visit Lythe Hill, look out for the collection pots around the hotel. Any contribution can make a big difference to this great local cause. If you want to find out more then please visit the Stepping Stones website here – https://www.steppingstones.org.uk/
